Incident Details
A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday morning at a busy downtown Markham intersection, resulting in the death of a 92-year-old pedestrian.
The collision took place shortly after 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Lloyd Street and Paris Street. According to a news release from Markham police, two vehicles were involved in the crash. Debris from one of the vehicles struck the elderly woman while she was on the sidewalk. At the scene, a white car with significant front-end damage was seen in the middle of the northbound lanes of Paris Street, and a grey pickup truck with damage to the driver’s side was parked on the wrong side of the street, facing south just before the crosswalk. Yellow police tape was used to cordon off the area, and an officer was present to direct traffic.
Victim Information
The 92-year-old woman, whose identity is being withheld to respect her family’s wishes, was quickly attended to by community members who began life-saving efforts and contacted emergency services. Despite being transported to the hospital by ambulance, she was pronounced dead by medical professionals.
